Boiler gets full service and inspection
What happens in a boiler service?
To ensure the proper servicing of boilers, we only employ engineers who are registered with the Gas Safe Register.
There are several steps involved in properly servicing a boiler. The first step is to assess the gas and the installation, ensuring that the correct pressure is being supplied to the appliance. The engineer will then perform a “let by” test on the meter to confirm that the emergency control valve is functioning as it should. The next step is to perform a bolt tightening test, examining all the installation piping on the system. Once the engineer is satisfied that the installation is secure, they can proceed with the service of the appliance.
The first thing the engineer will do is visually inspect the exterior of the boiler to make sure that the casing and flue are in good condition and properly installed. Next, they will remove the boiler cover to inspect the interior and check for any signs of leaks or damage to the casing or electrical components.
The engineer will then clean the siphon on the condense strap, which is crucial for proper system operation. They will also inspect the condense installation to make sure it’s in good working order.
Next, the engineer will remove the siphon and clean it of any debris. They will then remove the casing and inspect the burner, cleaning it as needed. Once the burner has been inspected and reassembled, the engineer will proceed to the next step: combustion analysis.
The engineer will measure the CO to CO2 ratio to determine if the appliance is burning correctly. They will first check the high flame settings, then the low flame settings, to ensure that the boiler is burning in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
The engineer will then inspect the air intake of the flue to verify that there is no cross contamination or back siphon. They will look for a reading of 0 for carbon monoxide.
After the service is complete, the engineer will perform a secondary tightness test on the gas meter to make sure that the system is secure. Finally, the engineer will place a reminder sticker on the boiler cover with their contact information in case you need a boiler repair in the future.
This is a standard boiler service procedure that is performed by Gas Safe Registered engineers.
